2019 Beauty Must Haves

As the year (and decade) wraps up, I always like to reflect on what I felt like I couldn’t live without the past 365 days. I love trying new beauty products, but I’m also one with the mindset ‘if it’s not broke, don’t fix it,’ so I find myself using the same things day in and day out, and being completely content with it. So when I have a new beauty staple, I look at it as a big deal! I wanted to share with you guys my top beauty favorites of the year, that I will be carrying into next year happily, and will have high standards on being replaced by another beauty product.

I only had one hot tool that really took the cake for me this year and replaced my curling iron at home, the Bioionic 1 & 1/4 inch XL barrel is a true amazing curling iron. For those with long hair, thick hair, or both, this iron helps you get those beach waves even quicker than a traditional professional curling iron because of its length and quality. Even with my 18” extensions, I’m able to get my hair fully curled in about 20 mins, and touch ups in around 10. It saves so much time!

I have tried my fair share of deep conditioning treatments this year on my hair and my clients hair, and I’m so insanely excited that I found my go to’s for intensive repair, smoothing, moisture, and everything in between. One of which being R+Co Television Mask. Formulated to give rich moisture without weighing fine hair down is a must for me, as I can’t seem to always find a happy medium. But this stuff is perfect. My clients hair and my hair both love it.

To piggyback off of what I said about looking intently for a deep treatment line, I couldn’t seem to find a system that works for every hair type, that was luxurious enough yet affordable enough, had many different options to choose from, you get the point. Long story short, I stumbled upon Incommon Beauty, and I’m so grateful that I did. My hair is that hair type that never grows because it’s so fine and brittle that it breaks as quick as the roots grow, and for the first time in literal years, I have noticed growth. It’s unbelievable to me, as I’ve literally tried everything. I’m so excited to see my progress with my hair and it’s health into next year.

I curl my hair 99.9% of the time, and am weak to that super messy, beach wave. The trick and secret to that is all in the product. I think I own about eight different texture sprays (hairstylist perks) but there is one that I am now loyal to. R+Co Trophy not only gives that blown out beach look, but it also adds intense shine. Texture sprays are normally formulated with a lot of wax and powders, and those can kinda dull out your hair, so I like to finish afterwards with Kevin Murphy SHIMMER.SHINE to prevent that look. But why not get that all in one without needing both?

To prep my hair for beach waves and give my roots an instant boost, I cannot live without Kevin Murphy DOO.OVER. It’s like a texture spray, yet it’s formulated with more powder and less wax so it gives a very light hold. This gives soft, limp or super clean hair the right amount of grip so any curl will hold. It’s also an amazing ‘restyling’ product, meaning it will refresh dull, lifeless locks for another day of great hair to stretch out your shampoo routine.

Invisibobbles have taken over my life in all the best ways this year. I stopped using traditional hairties in my hair this year because of the insane breakage it can give. And I love scrunchies, but when I need my hair to hold since I have a lot of extensions sometimes they don’t really do the trick. These cord-styled hair ties keep my hair secure all day without the tension pain or breakage traditional hair ties give.

I completely changed my foundation routine this year and I am so here for it. I am now able to do a full face in 20 minutes where in years past, everyday would take me 45 minutes to an hour. And I have some great products to thank for that. L’Oréal 24 hour fresh wear is my go to for a full face, glam moment. It’s got a natural, medium coverage finish and stays on literally all day. I apply it with a damp beauty sponge and it blends in seamlessly.

Now on a daily standpoint, I’ve learned powder foundation is the way to go. It doesn’t last as long, I get only about 8 hours of wear out of it, but that’s all I normally need on a daily basis. Bare Minerals Powder Foundation has a medium coverage, and they have a matte finish and a natural finish. I wore the matte finish all summer and this winter I switched to the natural finish and I’m actually obsessed with the glow it gives.

Okay yeah I’m late to the party on this one, but Tarte Shape Tape concealer is literally game changing. It’s not too thick, but not too thin and covers my 3 hours of sleep looking dark circles. A little goes a long way as well, so it lasts a long time.

I also completely revamped my skincare routine this year because it just simply needed it. And although it’s not perfect, it’s come a long way. Some products that really helped is my Clinique Clarifying Lotion. I put this on after I wipe off my makeup and cleanse it, and it gets all the leftover dirt, oil and makeup residue off which I definitely missed a lot and in turn made my skin feeling and looking so dull.

I have a few tricks I do when I get breakouts, but using my Soap & Glory Scrub Your Nose In It detox scrub. I use this once to twice a week on my t-zone and wherever I have a breakout, and the next day I always notice a dramatic difference- the zit itself has shrunk and the redness isn’t as prominent. Normally the zit is gone within 2-3 days.

So there you guys have it! These staples I discovered in 2019 and I haven’t stopped using them since. Hope you guys enjoyed!
