BEACH WAVE SERIES | Tools of the Trade

Beach waves are always a win in my mind. Due to being a hairdresser, I’ve tried so many tools, products, and techniques and I’m here to compile all my top secrets to getting the perfect, long lasting, textured, beachy wave. I decided to do these in a series as well so it’s not one huge post with information overload. We’re going to be going over the hot tool to choose from today, and later we’ll be going into product, how to actually achieve the perfect wave, etc.

The first thing to determine when figuring out which tool to get is to choose your desired look. There are three great hot tools that do a great job at getting that textured wave, but they all give a different look and are used differently.

At the end of the day, as long as you research the exact iron itself and if it’s good quality or not, I personally don’t think there’s a right or a wrong hot tool to go with- I love all three for their different uses, and use them depending on my mood and what I want.

I personally get through my and my clients hair fastest with a curling iron, and I feel that’s because I keep moving with the curling iron, I’m not holding it still in one spot for a while.

Here are some of my favorite hot tools for beach waves:

BED HEAD A Wave We Go Adjustable Deep Waver

Bed Head Makin Waves Tourmaline Ceramic S Waver

Alure Three Barrel Curling Iron Wand

AMIKA High Tide Deep Waver

Bed Head Wave Artist Deep Waves BH305 Tourmaline Ceramic Hair Waver

Kristin Ess Beach Wave Curling Iron – 1″

BabylissPro Nano Titanium Spring Curling Iron, 1.25″

T3 SinglePass Curl 1.25” Professional Ceramic Curling Iron

Kristin Ess Soft Wave Pivoting Wand Curling Iron – 1 1/4″

BaBylissPRO Nano Titanium Curling Wand

PAUL MITCHELL Neuro Angle 1” Curling Rod Iron

Some key things I look for in choosing a curling iron, wand or waver are

  • High quality
  • Multiple heat settings
  • High quality plates
  • Automatic shut off is not a dealbreaker, but it is really nice
  • Heats up quickly
  • Long lasting curls
  • Delivers smooth results (not fuzzy or frizz)
